Sheilah Winn:
Sheilah Winn rehearsals are well underway. We have five groups this year, and we will be performing at the Regional Festival on April 5th at Albany Junior High. The Shakespeare showcase will take place on March 25th at 7pm. Student directors are Emily Cuff, Thea Kozak, Tasman Smail, and Paige Sweetman. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these students in action.
Junior Drama:
Junior Drama Club is off to a great start! We have been diving into script work and playing with short scenes and the power of pause. There are still some spaces in Junior Drama class, so if you missed out, please message Miss Motion on Teams!
Theatre sports are alive on Thursday lunchtimes! No need to sign up! Just show up, make friends, and play some games while improving your public speaking and performance skills.
Dance:
All co-curricular groups for dance are off to an exciting and creative start, all working towards various competitions in term 2.
Showquest leaders have clarified their cast and theme and are working with their groups to produce a dazzling piece for June. Hip Hop mini-crew are developing and teaching each other sets for their competitions in June and July. Jazz Company, and our new group, Junior Contemporary have come together and bonded over various stylistic pieces and have been working on technical pieces for June. Dance Break our fun, free hip hop group has had great sessions learning hip hop foundations from our leaders for development in styles.
Music:
The Music department activities are well underway this year, with all eight of our co-curricular ensembles starting rehearsals and our itinerant music lessons starting in week 3.
This year, our new SSA choir, Stella Voce, is preparing to compete at the World Choir Games. This event is a world competition with over 50 countries represented and takes place during the July school holidays. They are looking forward to representing the school on a world stage and performing in some of Auckland’s top performance venues. Our SATB choir, Chorale, has also launched, and we invite any students who are interested in singing to come along to P1 at lunchtime on Wednesdays.
Concert Band, Big Band, and String Ensemble have started preparation for our yearly competitions and concerts with weekly rehearsals, and we are excited to have many new members this year across all year levels.
Due to the overwhelming interest in the Jazz programme, we have created a second Jazz combo for 2024. Our two combos, The Manhattan Combo and The Brooklyn Combo are directed by our Saxophone and Clarinet itinerant tutor, Mr Cameron Kelso.
Itinerant Music lessons began in Weeks 3 and 4, with many students learning new instruments such as the oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet.
