International student shares NZ lockdown life experience

My name is Nhi and I’m an international student from Vietnam. This year has been a big change for me, especially with impact of the worldwide pandemic, COVID 19. Since lockdown, everything felt very strange and at first I found it difficult to focus on my online studies. With the help of the International Office staff, I started to think positively and felt supported and cared for during the difficult times. I then quickly adapted to online studying, spent more time on my hobbies and on outside activities with my homestay family. As I  started to think more positively, everything turned out better than I thought.

During lockdown, my homestay family and I did a river stone painting together in the back yard, played volleyball and I also cooked some traditional vietnamese food. I also saw lockdown as a chance to catch up on things in life besides studying.

With the support from the international staff, the teachers at Long Bay College and my host family, I was able to get through lockdown with a positive attitude.

The international team has been truly amazing because they always make sure students are up to date with their work and that we are safe and well cared for.
