Tēnā koutou, e te whānau o Te Kāreti o te Oneroa o Kahu, Long Bay College.
We are entering the final stages of our 2022 school year and for our seniors, their NCEA external examinations begin on Monday 7 November, concluding on Friday 2 December, we wish all of our students well.
Our juniors begin the long-awaited ‘Projects’ initiative in Week 4 and I know there is great excitement in our community relating to this, I look forward to seeing the fruits of each of our students’ work.
We have two mandatory Accord Days before the end of the term. These days are held in all secondary schools and are there to support us, as a community, to prepare for the huge and impending changes relating to national educational initiatives including the NCEA change package, the introduction of Numeracy and Literacy co-requisites, and also the New Zealand Curriculum review. As a consequence, both the 21 November and 28 November will be teacher only days and we thank you for your support and understanding.
A recent highlight at our kura was the Year 13 Leavers’ Day. I would like to pay tribute to our Year 13 students who have stuck with their education through the most trying of times. They left us displaying pride, class, and integrity and the raw emotion they displayed when walking through our school’s tree-lined driveway as our staff and students cheered and clapped them on their way, is a lovely recent tradition that hopefully will live long in their memories.
Ngā mihi nui
