Peer Support team help junior students transition

This year, Long Bay College has launched the Peer Support programme with 120 senior students taking up the leadership opportunity to guide and support younger students as they transition to College.  In preparation, the students completed training before the school year began.

The leaders have buddied up with students in our Year 9 Atawhai groups. So far, they have helped new students’ on Orientation Day by faciliating games and assisting with a school-wide scavenger hunt. They have also supported groups with a House System lesson. In Week Six of Term One, the leaders will run a session with their groups, focusing on building connections and communication.

“Peer support has been great so far,” says student, Jessica Pieterse. “I have met a lot of people and made a lot of new friends. It’s a great way to get to know the sort of activities  available in the school. I love it and I am so excited for the year that’s ahead of us.”
