Principal’s Message

Tena koutou ki te whanau,

Welcome to the first 2020 edition of Wavelength, our College newsletter.

We have had a busy, yet wonderful, start to the school year. Our NCEA results saw record pass rates across Levels 1, 2 and 3 and we have seen some impressive performances from our students gaining top end qualifications with academic Scholarships.

Our new Year 9 cohort have quickly settled into their surroundings and have been welcomed and supported by our older students. Such a smooth transition does not happen without the hard work behind the scenes from our support staff, pastoral team and our curriculum staff.

Currently, we are establishing the important rhythms and routines that enable a large New Zealand school to function effectively.  We are unapologetic about setting high standards for correct uniform and personal grooming as well as setting expectations about self-management and organisation. We also encourage everyone to think about the words they choose and how they respond to others. We are proud of our values of Respect, Care, Creativity and Community and every one of us is is accountable to these values at all times. Our values and routines are the precursors to academic, social, sporting, artistic and community success. They also send a message about the value we, as a school, place on life-long learning. Long Bay College students should be under no illusions about their responsibilities in these areas.

I look forward to a very positive 2020 and all of our students reaching their personal levels of excellence.

Mr CJ Healey
