Kia Ora Parents/Caregivers, Students and members of our school community,
While 2020 has presented many challenges and obstacles, I am happy to report that our school community has responded magnificently by displaying plenty of resilience to push aside adversity and rise to the challenges that have confronted us.
Last year was Long Bay College’s best academic year on record. In 2020, we are proud our students are already ahead of comparable statistics for late June 2019 in relation to the number of credits gained across our courses. We are also heartened by our students’ attendance rates which are currently exceeding all expected markers, particularly against usual trends for this term.
School life is quickly returning to normality. Music and cultural groups are rehearsing and our sports teams are back on the fields, courts and in the pools; with no shortage of success.
It is important to note there are still 21 weeks until NCEA examinations. Students have plenty of time for new beginnings or to build momentum in their studies. Our young people have been buoyed by the news that external examinations have been delayed by a week and additional NCEA ‘Learning Recognition’ credits are now available to supplement their achievements. This is a fantastic opportunity for our learners and we will be supporting them to focus on the quality of their credits rather than worrying just about the quantity.
