Term Four is always fast, furious and exciting as we end the year with prizegivings, Year 9 camp, Year 10 activity days and of course NCEA examinations.
The attendance rates of our students at external examinations has been very pleasing and reflect our community’s tenacity and commitment to achieving our very best, despite a difficult year; our students, their teachers and their support crew at home can take much credit in this and we look forward to receiving our students’ results early next year.
We can proudly look back on a year of great achievement. All areas of our school, Academia, The Arts, Culture, Sports and Service, managed the challenges that came their way this year and achieved fantastic successes.
As a school, we have continued to develop. Next year, we will be launching exciting, new initiatives that have been carefully planned during 2020. They include a House System, Peer Support programme, a new Professional and Learning Development programme for our staff (which will assist us with delivering the digital curriculum), Year 9 BYOD implementation and teaching and learning methodologies unique for our school and setting.
In 2021, we are looking forward to welcoming the school’s largest ever Year 9 cohort with nearly 400 students enrolled with us.
In closing, I would like to congratulate four very special students on their achievements. Firstly, to our Head Girl and Head Boy, Tace Chapman and Luka Katavich. They have both led their school with a calmness, efficiency and expertise which far exceeds their age. We wish them both well. Secondly, to our top academic achievers of 2020, Sanna Kalberer, who was named Dux, and Bella de Silva, who is our Proxime Accessit, both worthy recipients. Congratulations to these students on 13 years of school, culminating in such a wonderful achievement.
Our office and reception will close on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 4pm and re-open on Monday, January 25, 2021, 9am. Information about getting ready for College in 2021, including correct unform, BYOD, stationery and more, can be found on our website.
All of us at Long Bay College wish our community the very best of Christmas tidings and hope that your summers are long, warm, safe and enjoyable.
