Long Bay College Science Teacher, Miss Alicia Chan is visiting one of China’s busiest cities, Shanghai, on a school exchange programme. The three-week immersion programme sees Miss Chan teaching English to students in Guangming High School and Science (in English) to students in Gezhi Junior School, both of which are our College’s sister schools. Miss Chan says Chinese students are exposed to a completely different style of teaching and learning and their responses to the curriculum are also highly rooted in their upbringing and values. A continual strive for excellence, despite the long hours of school (8am to 5.15pm), is also evident. “It has been phenomenal and such an eye-opener. I have learnt a lot about Chinese culture,” Miss Chan said. Earlier this year, a teacher from Guangming High School visited Long Bay College on the school exchange programme.
