Special Kapa Haka performance for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori (Maori Language week) runs from September 9-15. As part of the celebration, everyone is warmly invited to attend a performance by Te Ropu Kapa Haka o Oneroa (Long Bay College Kapa Haka group), followed by a hakari (feast) with shared kai (food) on September 12, 6pm, in the Long Bay College Staffroom. Please come and tautoko our ropu (support our group) who have been practising hard. Please bring kai and a koha (donation) to support the group’s field trips.

The chosen theme for the 2019 week is again ‘Kia Kaha te Reo Māori’. ‘Kia Kaha’ is well understood in New Zealand English with its meaning of ‘be strong’. When we say ‘Kia Kaha te Reo Māori’ we’re saying  – ‘Let’s make the Māori language strong’.

Māori Language Day is September 14 and commemorates the presentation of the 1972 Māori language petition to parliament.
