Tēnā koutou, e te whānau ki Te Kāreti o te Oneroa o Kahu/Long Bay College,
As we come to the end of another successful term, I would like to reflect on a number of highlights that showcase the extraordinary opportunities and achievements taking place across Long Bay College.
One of the standout events of the term was Long Bay College hosting researchED New Zealand, an internationally recognised movement that brings together teachers, school leaders and researchers to promote evidence-informed education. It was a privilege to welcome hundreds of educators to our campus and further strengthen our position as a leading centre for educational innovation and practice.
We were also delighted to be named finalists in two categories at the New Zealand Education Excellence Awards: Excellence in Quality Teaching and Instruction and Excellence in Raising Student Achievement. This recognition reflects the hard work of our students, staff and wider community and acknowledges the strong culture of learning that exists within our school.
Our cultural calendar has been equally vibrant. The Multicultural Show, Cultural Festival, Samoan and Kiribati Language Weeks, Pride Week and Māori and Pasifika whānau events provided opportunities to celebrate the diversity that makes our school community so unique and enriched.
The Arts continue to thrive at Long Bay College. From the Rock Showcase to Arts Week and numerous performances, exhibitions and creative projects, our students have once again demonstrated remarkable talent, creativity and passion and also fared really well in competition results.
Sport has also provided many highlights throughout the term. Across a wide range of codes, our students have represented the College with distinction, demonstrating commitment, resilience and outstanding sportsmanship and again, no shortage of success.
Behind the scenes, we have welcomed 4 new classrooms with an additional 12 (including 5 new Science laboratories) due in the next year and significant progress continues on the refurbishment of O Block (16 classrooms) and the construction of our new water-based hockey turf. These exciting developments represent a major investment in the future of our students and will further enhance opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
Thank you to our staff, students and whānau for your continued support, commitment and partnership. Together, we continue to create a school community that pursues excellence, values learning and cares deeply for one another.
I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable term break and look forward to welcoming students back for another exciting term ahead.
Ngā mihi nui,
CJ Healey
Principal
