Tools we’re using to support career pathways

There are students who know exactly what they want to do when they leave school and others who need extra support. Our Careers Department works with all school leavers (and is available to all students) to put strategies in place to help.

This year, we introduced our new, online pathway planning programme for all students known as Career Central. The programme allows us to provide personalised career planning for every student as well as keep a record to track and manage student’s career interests and intentions.

Our Year 12 and 13 Gateway students enjoyed work placements in organisations around the North Shore at organisations such as Harbour Sports, Comet Construction, Anzac Auto, Pets In The City, Autolathing Engineering, KinderCare, Allan Tongs Boat Builders, Cuts By Kaz, EcoPod Concepts, Mitre 10 Mega, JW Marine, Nautique, Spotlight and more. We are proud to see a number of students have accepted apprenticeships with the organisations who have offered them placements.

Students also completed Unit Standards towards NCEA results in First Aid, Customer Service and Health & Safety.

Our STAR Courses were very popular this year. They are designed to help Year 11-13 students transition from school into tertiary study or work. Tectorium short courses give students the opportunity to get a taste of what it is like to study Computing at tertiary level. We had 11 students complete the Techtorium Cyber Security STAR Course. Six of them were invited back to complete additional courses free of charge. Five students plan to enrol at Techtorium next year to begin tertiary studies.
