What a turnout, what a day! As part of Long Bay College’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, our home grounds came alive on Saturday for the Home Turf Challenge — and it was nothing short of amazing.
From the first whistle to the final cheer, the campus buzzed with energy and the atmosphere was electric. Supporters braved the occasional downpour, classic Auckland weather, keeping warm with LBC hoodies, beanies, and scarves, while enjoying moments of sunshine breaking through the clouds. Coffee carts kept spirits high, our Commerce students’ market offered plenty of treats, and the sausage sizzle proved a hit with the crowd.
The day was packed with a full programme of winter sports, as Long Bay College teams went head-to-head against visiting colleges in Football, Rugby, Basketball, and Netball. The sidelines were filled with students, staff, alumni, whānau, and members of our wider community — all there to cheer on Long Bay College.
Ray from the Bay made a special appearance (Up the Rays!), the chance to win a Ford Mustang for the weekend thanks to North Harbour Ford, and above all, a wonderful display of sportsmanship, school spirit, and community pride.
While the weather kept us on our toes, it couldn’t dampen the excitement. The Home Turf Challenge was more than just a sporting event — it was a celebration of 50 years of Long Bay College’s proud sporting history and a reminder of what makes our community so special.
A huge thank you to our students, staff, visiting teams, whānau, and supporters for making this day one to remember. Here’s to the next 50 years of sport, spirit, and success at Long Bay College!
