Long Bay College Welcomes a New Legend: Ray from the Bay

Long Bay College has officially welcomed a new legend to its shores – Ray from the Bay! More than just a mascot, Ray is one of us! He represents the strength, agility, and unity, that define our school spirit. As the guardian of the Bay, Ray represents our commitment to resilience, leadership, and camaraderie, ensuring that every student feels supported on their journey.

A New Era with Ray:

Ray from the Bay is more than just a character; he is a kaitiaki (guardian) and our biggest supporter. His presence is here to inspire us to be agile, up for the challenge, and ride the waves of school life with confidence. Just like the stingray glides effortlessly through the waves, our students move forward with determination, guided by the school values and knowing that Long Bay College is a place where we can grow and succeed.

To mark the occasion and celebrate Ray’s arrival, we have introduced an original school song dedicated to Ray.

“Ray from the Bay, yeah he’s glidin’ through the waves,
Kaitiaki of the crew, showin’ us the way,
Strong, swift, and steady when the waters start to sway,
Long Bay College got a legend every day!”

The Māori concept of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) is a great part in Ray’s identity. As our school’s kaitiaki, Ray represents us encouraging to care for our community, take pride in our school, and uphold the values that define Long Bay College.

Ray from the Bay is a legacy in the making, he is a historic icon for Long Bay College, marking a new chapter in our school’s story. His presence will inspire generations of students to embrace courage, teamwork, and perseverance. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or within our wider community, Ray serves as a reminder that we are all part of something greater, united in strength and purpose.
