Open Evening 2022

On Wednesday, July 27th we hosted our annual Open Evening. We opened our doors and welcomed potential new students along with their families and whanau to come and see what Long Bay College is all about. Care, Respect, Creativity, and Community. Our faculties and their students came together to showcase their own space and ideas with a mixture of passion for what they do and pride of where they do it.

Our PE department showcased our Climbing wall, our new outdoor 3x3basketball facilities, and our fitness hub, Latitude 36. You might have also noticed the construction work being done on the new multi courts if you took a stroll around the school grounds or participated in one of our tours led by our Prefects. The courts will consist of 2 Basketball courts, 4 Netball courts, 4 Tennis courts, a Hockey half court, and a Futsal court.

Our three presentations ran on the hour starting at 5pm and were not to be missed. The presentation was not only a wealth of information for prospective families but those who attended got a sneak preview of our up and coming production All Shook Up. The Rock ’n’ Roll musical comedy. The performance is based on the book by Joe DiPietro inspired and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. If you saw the preview and are keen to see the production, there are 5 shows starting Wednesday, August 3rd and tickets can be purchased here:

As well as a preview performance of the production, presentation attendees also saw a moving video from New Zealand former rugby league football coach Sir Graham Lowe. Graham’s twin boys Jack and Sam Lowe attended Long Bay College from 2016 through to 2021. Graham speaks so highly of the College and it’s values that he wanted to put it on record. Both Jack and Sam graduated school with incredible grades with Sam finishing the year as 2021 Proxime Accessit.

We would like to thank our staff and students who helped with Open Evening whether it be on the night or preparation, as well as New World Long Bay who supplied the Long Bay College Youthwork Team with food for the sausage sizzle.

Also, thank you to our external vendors. The Uniform Shoppe, Athlete’s Foot Albany, and our online payment provider Kindo, for supplying information for our potential new families and whanau on the evening.

Finally, Thank you to our school community, students, families and whanau of 2023 for braving the cold. We hope you enjoyed Long Bay College as much as we do and look forward to seeing your faces again soon.
