Winter Tournament Week 2025

Winter Tournament Week 2025

What a fantastic week away! This year we had seven teams travel around the North Island to compete at various tournaments.

After a strong season winning the Open Mens and the Greater Auckland Champs, our Premier Basketball Boys competed at the Auckland Regionals and finished 14th, battling it out against some of the biggest schools in the area. They have a playoff match next season to gain promotion into the Senior A Division. We are already looking forward to next season.

Our 1st XI Football Boys were up in Whangārei playing in the Rex Dawkins Cup. With promotion to the A1 division next season, the boys were full of confidence. After a successful start, they were knocked out in the quarterfinals and finished 8th overall. With such a young squad, they are excited about testing themselves against some of Auckland’s top schools next year.

Our 1st XI Football Girls travelled to Taupō for the Senior Premier Tournament, facing the top schools from across the country. They played some really competitive matches, represented the school with pride, and finished 27th. Next season they will face Macleans in a playoff for a place in the Premier Division—come on the girls!

The Junior Football Boys headed to Tauranga for the Hillsdene Tournament, where the best schools in the country come to play. The boys were outstanding and finished 13th, a fantastic achievement.

Our 1st XI Hockey Boys competed at the Olympic Stick Tournament and played exceptionally well. With a very young squad losing only one Year 13 player, the future looks bright for this team. They picked up some great wins and finished 6th.

Our 1st XI Hockey Girls also travelled to Tauranga for the Chica Gilmour Tournament. After losing a number of Year 13s last season, this year was about rebuilding. The coaches have done a brilliant job supporting new players and guiding the group through a challenging season. The girls had some great results during the week and finished 25th overall.

Our Premier Netball Team followed up their North Harbour College 1 title by competing at UNISS, where they finished 3rd in their division. This is a really exciting group of players, and the coaches are looking forward to what’s to come. Well done girls!

Beyond the scores and results, Winter Tournament Week is about so much more than sport. These trips create amazing bonds, lasting friendships, and unforgettable memories for our players. The shared challenges, travels, and moments of triumph build resilience, teamwork, and a strong sense of pride in representing Long Bay College.

It was a busy but thoroughly enjoyable week. A big thank you to all the coaches, teachers, managers, and volunteers who helped get our teams away—your support is truly appreciated. It has been such a successful year of sport at the school, and we can’t wait for next season to begin.
